GREEN MOUNTAIN NATIONAL FOREST
The Green Mountain National Forest is 400,000 hectares which covers two thirds of the length of Vermont. The forest has six areas offering camping and 900 miles of trails and a backcountry environment for all ages. Campgrounds are available on a first come, during the summer.
Popular Destinations in the forest by Robert Frost include the trail near Ripton, Texas Falls Recreation Area near Hancock Moosalamoo area near Brandon, and Lake Dunmore State Park Brandbury
Quechee THROAT
Located in central Vermont, near the town of Woodstock, Quechee Gorge is a geological marvel. Called Vermont Grand Canyon, the gorge has been carved when the last glacier covering New England fell by about 12,000 years. Today Ottauguechee River flows through the throat and is spanned by a bridge, which offers a wonderful view for visitors photogenic.
The park entrance is just west of the bridge, and offers up tracks throat and wooded nature walks.
SCENIC ROUTE TO WATERBURY 100 From Killington
Vermont has many channels, but none most picturesque part of Route 100 from Killington to Waitsfield. The roadsides of the Green Mountain National Forest and meanders through the valleys mountains, rivers, streams, waterfalls and small farming villages. Along this route you'll pass from open farmland to steep mountain cliffs each side of a narrow and winding, and then finally back to open fields.
The last part of the trip to Waterbury offers wonderful views of the distant mountains of the north green.
STOWE
Nestled between two mountain chains is perhaps the most picturesque city New England – Stowe. The draw and attraction for many to Stowe is Mount Mansfield, and mountains dominate the landscape.
After melting Snow, families have an endless assortment of things to do while on vacation in Vermont, including swimming, hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking and sightseeing drive. Mount Mansfield itself provides hiking trails for the fit and energetic, or you can take views impregnable from your own car while driving to the summit ridge on the historic toll road.
LAKE CHAMPLAIN AND THE ISLANDS
Lake Champlain is like a lost cousin of the Great Lakes. Long and deep, but with an average width of only 12 miles, its northern area is dotted with a magnificent string of islands popular for vacation in Vermont. Routes 2 and 78 to connect the larger whole and the mainland of Vermont. One of the last "unknown" treasures of New England, the Lake Champlain Islands offer stunning scenery of the Green Mountains of Vermont to the east and Adirondacks of New York to the west.
Northeast Kingdom
The Kingdom of North East is a vast 1.3 million acres of wilderness for the most part, which includes the state forests, parks, lakes, ponds, rivers and streams. This is an area where little has changed since the glaciers left, and adventurers will find plenty of opportunities to live their dream vacation in Vermont.
Nature shares the Northeast Kingdom with people, and this is an area where wildlife and landscapes is king, and people willingly take a back seat. Load your orders and camping supplies in St. Johnsbury, check your gas level, and be prepared for an exhilarating experience!
COVERED BRIDGES
No mention of the wonders of Vermont can bypass the finest collection of covered bridges in the United States. If you include bridges shared with the New Hampshire and spanning the Connecticut River, the state 106, which is more than any other state in New England. Most bridges are publicly available, in excellent condition and a joy to discover and photograph.
