Garbage collection: Is there a way to get rid of Styrofoam?
I bought some items during the last two weeks which – as usual – come packaged in polystyrene beads, advice and potatoes "smart things. There is only one collection once a fortnight (14 days) and one bin (trash your PPL in the U.S.) so the only way to move, it is 5 miles in the center of "recycling" (or "dump" as they used to say) or fly-tip … I do not like the first option because it is a round trip of 10 miles each time and I'm not going to leave it on the side of the road either. Is there a way to melt? I do not want to burn, but it is surely a way to compact down? But Before you say "trash compactor" the cheapest I've seen is around 400 pounds ($ 800) for something I should not use more than once per month.
I understand you are not the United States. I know of polystyrene in the United States is not manufactured with CFCs, but I am not sure of your location. Shredding, burning or melting of polystyrene containing CFCs can release harmful toxins into your air. A cautious response: Can I store the packaging materials until your garbage? (Please do not consider leaving the board the road!) Some companies are beginning to use packaging materials cornstarch. They melt when they come into contact with water. Good for them!
